Our Favorite Dog Birthday Cake Recipe

Updated: Mar 5

Belly Rubs Bakery got its name for a reason–we love our pups and treat them like family. Since I can never pass up an excuse to make a cake, that means our lucky dogs get a sweet treat on their birthday each year.

The original Belly Rubs connoisseur just celebrated his 5th birthday, so in honor of our namesake, I wanted to share the dog cake recipe I’ve made for him since his very 1st birthday.

The Recipe

This recipe comes from Love from the Oven, and it gets a ringing endorsement from this household. Both dogs gobble it down without hesitation, plus it’s packed with ingredients you most likely already have in your pantry. While all the ingredients are generally considered safe for dogs, be sure to check with your veterinarian first if your dog is on a special diet, if they have any allergies, or if you have any other concerns.

This recipe does call for natural peanut butter, but since we almost never have it in the house, I’ve always just used Jif. Natural peanut butter is usually preferred for dogs due to the higher sugar content in run-of-the-mill peanut butter, but if it’s for an occasional treat, Jif or other brands of regular peanut butter are generally fine. Again, with the caveat here that it’s never a bad idea to consult your veterinarian if you are unsure!
